Yesterday like today, what actors and actresses wear in Laguna and on the red carpet is commented, analyzed, loved or criticized

From the Empire-style dress in velvet and pink chiffon by Chanel Haute Couture by Keira Knightley in 2007, to that of Linda Evangelista in goddess version with a golden pattern by Lanvin in 2008, up to the beautiful lilac tulle dress designed by Rodarte by Elle Fanning last year: cinema and glamor in Venice are indissoluble elements.

But on that red carpet too deep necklines have gone through, dresses that are too clashing and embarrassing slits like that of the dress by Alexandre Vauthier worn by Bella Hadid in 2016 that was so deep that the model did not wear underwear.

But waiting to find out what actresses and international stars will be wearing here are all the glamorous novelties of the 2018 edition of the Venice Film Festival.

The Godfather

After Alessandro Borghi in 2017, again this year to do the honors for the opening and closing ceremony of the Film Festival there will not be the classic “godmother” but a godfather: Michele Riondino. The 39-year-old Tarantino actor will play the role that was, among others, by Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Luisa Ranieri, Kasia Smutniak and Eva Riccobono.

He too will have to undergo the bath ritual in the Lido’s waters the day before the festival begins and although he is known as a casual-style anti-star, there is so much waiting to know what the designer will dress him.

Parade on the red carpet

The haute couture show is certain, however, because there are so many international stars that will arrive at the Lido this year, including Lady Gaga, Emma Stone, Juliette Binoche, Bradley Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, Jude Law, Vince Vaughn, Mel Gibson and Willem Dafoe.

After Yves Saint Laurent arrives Armani Beauty

Giorgio Armani will take care of the makeup of the stars and as official beauty sponsor of the Film Festival will provide the official make-up service to the guests who will parade on the red carpet. The choice is also linked to the fact that Giorgio Armani has a long relationship with the cinema: the designer has created costumes for many films, starting from Richard Gere’s wardrobe in American Gigolo in 1980, to continue then, just to name a few, with The Untouchables, Gattaca, I dance alone, the Batman series by Christopher Nolan and The Wolf of Wall Street. Last year the make-up had been entrusted to a fashion brand, Yves Saint Laurent.

Events

As always, there will be no exclusive parties after the screenings. It starts from the traditional gala dinner offered by the Venice Biennale on the day of the inauguration, followed by the after party of Lexus, a Toyota luxury brand and the main sponsor of the Venice Film Festival.

The theme will be “Omotenashi”, the hospitality typical of Japanese culture. “A touch of red” will be the dress code requested for the Campari cocktail on August 30th. Vanity Fair for its events opens the most beautiful palaces in Venice. At Palazzo Polignac on September 2 the “Vanity Fair Dinner” in collaboration with Tendercapital, while on 3 September at Fondaco Marcello the weekly directed by Daniela Hamaui will organize the exhibition “Jason Bell Portraits”, dedicated to the famous photographer and portraitist Jason Bell who will be present inauguration. The exhibition will then remain open to the public on September 4th and 5th.

The Franca Sozzani Award

But the most anticipated event by the fashion world is the Franca Sozzani Awards, which will take place on August 31 at Belmond Hotel Cipriani. This year the prize set up by the family of the historic director of Vogue Italia who died in 2016 will be awarded to actress Salma Hayek because “she has combined excellence in the artistic field with a tireless civil and social commitment with the same strength and determination of Franca Sozzani “.

No selfie on the red carpet

This year the director of the Film Festival Alberto Barbera has decided to ban selfie on the red carpet as it already happens at the Cannes Film Festival. Handbags under the armpit to take pictures with the phone and grimaces on the red carpet are definitely not glamorous.
