The Tommy Hilfiger brand presents two models of sneakers partly made with recycled apple peel fibers, an alternative to leather that allows not only to reduce waste, but also to limit the environmental impact of the American fashion house towards sustainability. In search of solutions to reduce their ecological impact, brands are gradually moving towards recycling, production processes that consume less energy and organic materials. The fibers of some fruits, such as pineapple, are increasingly sought after to avoid the use of materials that require chemical treatments and important quantities of water. For the Spring-Summer 2020 season, the brand presents two models of shoes designed starting from these fibers. An opportunity made possible by the waste of the apple industry, and by a partnership with the Italian start-up Frumat, from Bolzano, which has developed a new raw material that offers various thicknesses and textures and allows in particular to create garments originally conceived in leather.
