American designer, director and chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America Tom Ford is heading west for his next fashion show. Ford will show his fall 2020 collection on February 7 ahead of the Academy Awards on February 9. “The decision to show in February in Los Angeles feels very natural to me. It is my home, and has a strong impact on the way that I live and work within both the fashion and film worlds – Ford said – this year the New York Fashion week calendar exactly overlaps Oscar weekend. There is an excitement in L.A. on that particular weekend and the relationship between film and fashion is a strong one. In my role as chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, CFDA, my priority is to globalize and bring attention to American fashion. There is truly no bigger or more prominent stage in the world at any given time than Los Angeles during the Academy Awards.” The show venue is yet to be announced. Although Ford’s position with the CFDA might influence the designer to double-down on his commitment to the New York fashion scene, Ford has a strong connection to Los Angeles, a city where he has one of many luxurious homes, and has showed his collections in the past. Ford’s designs are popular in the City of Angels. The list of celebrities who have publicly sported his luxury looks in Hollywood and beyond is extensive: Beyoncé, West, Naomi Campbell, Alex Rodriguez, Justin Timberlake and Drake among them. Ford last held a show in Los Angeles in February 2015, entertaining a curated crowd of 500 invitees, including Beyoncé and Jay Z, Elton John and Anna Wintour. More recently, Ford showed his Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection in New York City, staging a moody runway show on a disused subway platform.
