The neapolitan buyer was one of the very few invited to the designer’s défilé
Tom Ford still seduces: word of fashion director Milena Giordano, one of the most influential international buyers and one of the few Italians admitted to the court of the couturier, who for his Spring-Summer 2019 fashion show has attracted many of the most famous names in the Big Apple of the world of entertainment and fashion all over the world.
“A collection characterized by the most sexy and intriguing femininity”, explains Milena, commenting on the event that kicked off the New York Fashion Week.
For him, on the catwalk set up inside the Park Avenue Armory, (the building structure and industrial warehouse together that since 2007 is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that require non-traditional spaces for their full realization), Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Vittoria Ceretti and Joan Smalls.
The undisputed star of the evening, Milena recounts, was Gigi Hadid in a black silk dress with a deep neckline and a crocodile corset, complete with a long and sensual cape.
Lavender motorcycle jacket in crocodile instead for Kaia Gerber, “worn on a strapless top and a delightful skirt of fringes”. To cover the hairstyle, a scarf, always lavender.
Crocodile leather and headscarf are some of the recurring themes of this collection designed by Tom Ford, who has favored a limited color palette, made of lots of black, white, beige and lavender (in line with the Crocus Petal elected among the Pantone colors of this year).
Elegant and linear silhouettes, the feminine ones, interspersed with some male exits: animal prints, fringes and lingerie alternate with fascing suits, deep slits and stiletto heels.
Precious accessories, from maxi bags to Mary Jane with double strap and metallic inlays.
“It is a tribute to the Big Apple that staged by the designer-director, a sort of tribute to femininity – explains Milena Giordano – a bit ‘rebellious a bit’ aggressive that straddles the legendary Seventies and the glittering Eighties sought his emancipation in the streets of the metropolis, in the sleepless nights of Studio 54 “.
And for the less accustomed backstage gossip, here is revealed a little gem: “The handkerchief on the head? A wink to the historical muse of Yves Saint Laurent, Loulou de la Falaise, who never failed to collect hair in a scarf,” explains Milena.
So many celebrities flocked. The former Victoria’s Secret angel Adriana Lima sat in the front row.
At his side in the front row are various representatives of the world of entertainment and sport: Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Cardi B, Suki Waterhouse and basketball player Russell Westbrook. Unfailing Anna Wintour.
