Gary Wassner does not send her to tell Tom Ford and criticizes on Wwd the decisions taken by the designer for the New York Fashion Week

Wassner speaks of “truncation” of the New York fashion week, referring to the decision to shorten the American event to 5 days with the aim of optimizing the presence of buyers and international press. The Big Apple fashion week, dedicated to the women’s S / S 2020 collections, will open on September 6th and close on September 11th.

According to the manager, a similar calendar would limit the possibility of including new brands by discouraging newcomers: “The decision does not address the problems of American designers, but those of a small group of already well-established brands, to traditional industry media, to global retail buyers who in any case no longer have a monopoly on the destiny of these brands ”.

Wassner, who is also author, president of Interluxe Holdings, CEO of Hilldun, a member of the Fordham Fashion Law Institute and an investor in the ‘Project Runway’ program, offers an in-depth study of the problems that grip Nyfw before making rash decisions.

“In my experience, I believe that a successful company must begin by drawing up a well-reasoned program that considers the rationality, correctness, practicability and effectiveness of a plan,” explains the manager recalling the inclusive spirit that characterizes fashion American.

“American fashion is the fashion for people – continues Wassner -, its roots lie in practicality, creativity, in a commercial and entrepreneurial spirit. Any business plan should strive to preserve and promote these goals and values. It therefore amazes me that the choice to focus on ‘majors’ brand can achieve the aim of supporting all American designers ”.
