Mushrooms are no longer a question only of the palate of the gluttonous, but also of luxury brands. After Hermès, also Stella McCartney launches a couple of garments made with Mylo in collaboration with Bolt Threads, a vegan alternative to leather, obtained from the mycelium contained in the roots of mushrooms. The process has minimal environmental impact, takes days to complete and not years like the growth of a cattle, unlike livestock farming which is responsible for around 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with the consequent destruction of vital ecosystems. Mylo, unlike synthetic leathers, does not use petroleum. The two garments in question, a black bustier top and cargo pants, are presented as prototypes, and will not be for sale. Stella Mc Cartney will include items in Mylo in the next collections.
