Excessive increases in the price of raw materials in the textile and clothing supply chain. This was reported by Sistema Moda Italia which shows an increase in August of 35.2% in euros compared to the same month of 2020. Cotton, in particular, recorded a trend increase of 31.2%, wools by 42%, fibers synthetic materials such as polyester, nylon and acrylic by 51.6% and artificial ones such as viscose by 19.3%. The increases also concern various chemical products used in textile manufacturing, especially in the finishing and finishing phases of yarns and fabrics, in some cases up to 200%. The significant increases, explains Sistema Moda Italia, are explained by the excessive demand for the period, due to the restart of economic activities and the demand from the international markets for made in Italy products. Unfortunately, basic supplies come from countries that have not yet returned 100% active after the pandemic and this has triggered heavy increases in both fibers and chemicals and services related to transport logistics.
