Nike launches a second hand program: with the Nike Refurbished project it will return shoes “as new” or slightly imperfect and fix them, and then sell them at a discounted price to new buyers. Nike Refurbished is just the latest of the initiatives with which the company wants to reduce the volume of waste. The option is currently active in 15 American stores, but could expand internationally. “After a customer has returned a pair of shoes to Nike within a 60-day return period, eligible footwear is added to the Nike Refurbished range. Each pair is inspected and reconditioned by hand. Once the shoes return to a Nike store, the price is based on the type of footwear and the degree of condition they are in and in which they were returned.
