Prada, in collaboration with Dorchester Industries, the design and production department of Theaster Gates Studio, and the Rebuild Foundation is pursuing its strategy of attention to diversity, equity and inclusion with significant investments in training and talent promotion programs. Dorchester Industries Experimental Design Lab is the new three-year program for black artists designed to create opportunities for development and connection with organizations interested in collaborating with heterogeneous talents. Located on the South Side of Chicago, the Laboratory will have international relevance and will represent a space for exchange, training, comparison and visibility for future designers with the aim of enhancing both emerging and established black designers. Thanks to the awarding of prizes and public programming, it will be able to amplify the work of promising young black designers in the fashion, furniture, industrial design, graphic design and arts sectors, hosting exhibitions, performances and debates. The first group of winners will be selected by influential personalities in the fields of fashion, art and design, and announced in October 2021. The Experimental Design Awards will reward emerging designers who have demonstrated extraordinary creative potential.
