Givenchy presents the “Plage” capsule collection for the Autumn 2023 pre-collection.

Text: The influence of Hubert de Givenchy’s beachwear and his elegant retreat on the French Riviera comes to life in a summer collection that effortlessly transitions from the streets to the beach. Maison Givenchy is proud to present Plage, a “city to sea” capsule collection that includes swimwear and accessories for Autumn 2023. Inspired by the refined lifestyle and delicate colors of Le Clos Fiorentina, Hubert de Givenchy’s seaside estate in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, this collection revisits the Maison’s distinctive traits and offers seasonal variations on essential accessories, such as the Voyou bag in a “straw basket” version, Marshmallow wedges, and the classic G-Tote shopper. “The light takes on a different shade in the South of France: Monsieur de Givenchy loved Le Clos Fiorentina for its natural beauty and the relaxed elegance of this world apart from the frenetic Parisian life. With Givenchy Plage, I have explored that lifestyle through light and color, focusing in particular on the pearly pink facades typical of the region,” said Matthew M. Williams, Creative Director of Givenchy. By blending the relaxed glamour of the French Riviera with Californian roots, the Givenchy Plage capsule collection celebrates a serene and joyful way of life. In 2023, Givenchy Plage connects with this heritage by presenting iconic features of the Maison, both past and present. Bold cut-outs, classic beach club elements, nautical stripes, pearls, shades of pink, chain motifs, and delicately woven macramé blend together in silhouettes that convey sensuality with a touch of sportiness and ease. Black and white, two shades beloved by Givenchy for their timeless allure and universal elegance, hint at a collection characterized by versatile pieces that lend themselves to effortless layering. Linen, one of the couturier’s favored materials, is knitted to create bikinis and beach cover-ups in black or sand, accompanied by a fisherman hat or the seasonal raffia tote. Two prints from 1955 are reimagined for Givenchy’s contemporary clientele. Trompe-l’oeil pearls return on a caftan, a pareo, or a vibrant pink dress, as well as on a sheer t-shirt. This theme continues with the use of pink pearls on a bag or canvas beach sneakers. A pale grey print inspired by typical necklaces becomes an integral part of the details, such as the G-Link, Love Lock, and chains designed by Matthew M. Williams. Completing the collection are sporty mesh bags, sneakers, and fisherman hats in cool shades of grey. By juxtaposing Riviera classics with a Californian atmosphere, Matthew M. Williams reimagines Givenchy’s classic striped marinière, pairing it with sun-faded or artfully distressed denim shorts and denim clogs, 4G sneakers, or G-Tote with white Givenchy lettering. Another quintessential French symbol is the Voyou basket, with details inspired by a leather belt and bi-material hardware. The new glossy rubber Marshmallow wedges are available in matte and shiny black, as well as in seasonal shades of lilac, light pink, and pale yellow, perfectly suited for the season. To complete the Givenchy Plage capsule, there are playful and elegant variations of the 4G Plumetis jewelry line, including a bracelet, earrings, and a pink bioresin ring embellished with Swarovski crystals set in 4G spikes.
