Opening Ceremony, in 2020 stop to retail
After the acquisition by New Guards Group, Opening Ceremony has announced the closure of its retail stores by the end of 2020. The aim is now to focus on the growth of Opening Ceremony brand with the new partners and expand their creativity. The brand now has two stores in New York, one in Los Angeles and one in Tokyo. “The stores – founders said Wwd – host collections of male and female worlds and accessories from established and emerging designers, artistic installations and exclusive products. The first store was opened in New York, on Howard Street, in 2002. Opening Ceremony, the founders explain, will re-evaluate the retail experience in the future, but with a new “mind-set” and a new “perspective”. Last August Ngg, which includes Off-White, Palm Angels and Heron Preston among others, was taken over by Farfetch for a total enterprise value of 608 million euros.
