At the World Championships in Northern Ireland, the American brand and the Italian sportswear brand show the collection that saw them combine efforts to create high-performance and hyper technical pieces, available in stores from 25 July
The last major of this year’s golf season is held over the 18 holes of the centenary course in Northern Ireland at the Royal Portrush golf club between now and 21 July. After 68 years, for the second time in history, we are back outside the usual English and Scottish borders and for the occasion, Nike and Stone Island present the collection created with four hands that includes a windbreaker and a choker sweater, designed to optimize the movements and allow you to hold balls, tees and gloves in your own pockets.
“Knowing that during this tournament the weather can change suddenly, we wanted to focus more on outerwear. As experts in the creation of sportswear but, at the same time, style, Stone Island has been the ideal partner for us,” said Kelly Tweeden, vp and creative director of Nike golf, Nike tennis and Nike skateboarding.
“I’m excited that those who love sport love Stone Island. In particular, I am fascinated by golf because it is a game of precision, in which strength and concentration play a fundamental role in the athletic gesture and the performance achieved”, said Carlo Rivetti, creative director and president of Stone Island. “Working with Nike golf has given us the opportunity to create real technical garments, with very high performance. Stone island is therefore on the field for the first time with one of the most noble sports in the world.”
The military cotton jacket comes with a breathable membrane and hydro-repellent. Its adaptive fibers increase breathability, block heat and help maintain an optimal temperature throughout the competition. “When we create new garments, fabrics and treatments, the quest for very high performance and maximum functionality are for us two fundamental goals,” said Rivetti. “The dye and other finishing treatments test the yield of the fabrics and also the work of our tailors and modellers, so every detail must be perfectly studied. This is the secret that makes our garments suitable for sport, but above all, that’s why sports fans consider Stone island an original, esteemed and recognizable brand.
“The collaboration between Nike and Stone Island is the perfect combination of style and performance. As an athlete, it is important that my clothing can respond adequately to the conditions of any field. This new collection will allow me to be ready for the unpredictable climate of Northern Ireland and, at the same time, to fully meet my aesthetic needs,” commented golfer Rory McIlroy.
