Naomi Campbell will be honored with the Fashion Icon Award at the upcoming CFDA Fashion Awards, June 4 in Brooklyn

Naomi Campbell will receive the Fashion Icon Award at the June 4 CFDA Awards ceremony. In accepting the honor, Campbell joins the ranks of past icons Rihanna, Beyoncé, David Bowie, Pharrell Williams, and Kate Moss, just to name a few.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award,” said Campbell. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene.

I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career”

At this point in Campbell’s decades-spanning career, the word icon itself seems redundant.

The British model’s accolades span the full breadth of the fashion world, from Vogue covers to runway turns for the most legendary designers to music video appearances to a fully fledged TV career.

Not to mention she was a lifelong muse of Azzedine Alaïa, and the first black model to appear on the covers of Vogue Paris and Time.

She truly puts the capital S in Supermodel. C

FDA chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg sums up Campbell’s allure best: “From enfant prodige to goddess of fashion, Naomi represents beauty, activism, and joie de vivre.”
