Italy is still the first country in the world in the fashion and luxury sector, with 26 companies among the top 100 in the world for sales in fiscal 2020, followed by France with 8. This is what emerges from the Global Powers of Luxury Goods , Deloitte’s annual study on the world’s 100 top players in luxury fashion.

The top 100 companies in the world in the sector lost 12.2% of turnover in one year, generating sales of 252 billion dollars, 29 billion less than the previous year, but still with a profit margin of 5.1 %. Top 10 in luxury is essentially stable compared to the previous year: the only new entry is Hermes, in ninth place.
Top ten
Top 4 for the fourth consecutive year are the French giant LVMH (group with 75 maison including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi and Celine, absolute leader in the world with a turnover of almost 30 billion euros), the other French group Kering, the American Estée Lauder and the Swiss Richemont. Two other French groups, L’Oréal Luxe and Chanel, are confirmed in fifth and sixth place, as well as the Italian Essilor Luxottica in seventh. Eighth was the American PVH, ninth Hermès and tenth the Chinese jewelry company Chow Tai Fook.
The performances of Italian companies
Despite the negative impact of the pandemic, thanks to the made in Italy style, our country is confirmed as a leader in the sector with 26 Italian companies in the top 100, including Golden Goose (86th), Morellato (87th), Sportswear Company (Stone Island) (88th), which are among other things among top 10 companies in the world by percentage of fastest growth. Two thirds of the Italian companies in top 100 operate in the clothing and footwear sector, 5 in the bags and accessories category. EssilorLuxottica (7th), the Prada group (23rd) and Giorgio Armani (29th) are the three main Italian players in the ranking. Together, they represent almost half of the sales of luxury goods made by the Italian companies in the ranking. Moncler (33rd in the top 100) is the brand with the best performance over the years: for the sixth consecutive year it is among the top 20 with thefastest growth.
