Gucci collaborated with director Harmony Korine in the publication of a new limited edition opera. The book, “Gucci by Harmony Korine”, contains photographs taken by the American director, artist and screenwriter, and presents images from the Pre-Fall 2019 collection by Alessandro Michele, creative director of Gucci. The ancient cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii are the backdrop to the images
The cover and back of the limited edition photo book are illustrated by Korine. The edges of the pages have different colors so that, when placed side by side, five copies of the volume form an image. Each book is presented in a special case, also decorated with illustrations by the artist.
Herculaneum and Pompeii, the two ancient Roman cities, both UNESCO World Heritage sites, are the backdrop to the images in the book and were chosen as the location for the photos of Korine by Alessandro Michele. “It is absolute” belief of the Creative Director of Gucci that “the past allows us to understand and imagine the future, and therefore it is important not to forget it or neglect its memory”.
With this new project, Gucci says, “it continues its commitment to promoting the artistic and cultural heritage of the whole world”. The Maison’s most recent initiatives in the field of restoration and conservation include collaborations with the Dia-Art Foundation of New York, the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey in London, the Palatine Gallery inside Palazzo Pitti in Florence, the archaeological park of Selinunte in Sicily, and the Rupe Tarpea, in the south side of the Campidoglio in Rome.
“Gucci by Harmony Korine” will be distributed by Idea Books, an independent London publishing house, starting from the beginning of June. It will also be available at the Gucci Garden in Florence and at the Gucci Wooster Bookstore in New York.
