A synthesis between tailoring, luxury and streetwear, here is the new collection by Matthew Williams
The French edition dedicated to men’s fashion, the Paris Fashion Week dedicated to menswear began on 17 and will continue until 22 January 2023. The French capital welcomes the catwalks of the autumn/winter 2023 collections with as many as 81 international maisons present and with related 48 fashion shows and 33 presentations. During the second day, among the top brands present in the calendar drawn up by the Chambre Syndicale de la Mode Masculine and the Fédération de la Haute couture et de la Mode, the Givenchy fashion show definitely stood out. The designer Matthew Williams, after presenting his collection for 1017 Alyx 9sm, another brand of which he is creative director, at the just concluded Milano Moda Uomo, has proposed for the historic maison Givenchy a collection entirely focused on an aesthetic and an expressive language of the juxtaposition and synthesis of opposites. In fact, the Parisian catwalk saw a Givenchy F/W 2023 collection parade where the impeccability of the sartorial vision met, mixing, with the more grunge and lived-in streetwear. They are two irreconcilable worlds, on the one hand the chic and aristocratic allure typical of the French maison’s DNA, on the other the typical roughness of the street element. Thus we find a series of looks marked by an exploration of layering: shaped suit jackets that are combined with hooded sweatshirts and wide-leg Bermudas, streetwear looks enhanced by long baggy and well-cut long coats that transform the street into something luxurious , hooded sweatshirts, overlays of fabrics and patterns, including tartan and camouflage, accessories such as patent leather boots and black leather gloves, Bermuda shorts with high boots with maxi soles, skirts overlaid on trousers with “total look” faux fur coats in technical fabrics with neck cover. Among the celebrities present at the Givenchy a/w 2023 show was K-pop star Taeyang of Big Bang, and it is not the first time that Givenchy has chosen to associate his name with a South Korean star, in 2021 she was chosen the girl band Aespa as global ambassador. “Taeyang is an inspiring artist… a pioneer of music with an authentic and revolutionary way of expressing his personal style, which fits perfectly with today’s Givenchy aesthetic,” said Matthew Williams in a note and the star did not shy away to thanks for this important opportunity: “It has a special meaning for me, as Givenchy is a brand that has inspired me in many ways over the years. Matthew has been a leader in fashion and culture for many years. I look forward to the many exciting ways to collaborate with Givenchy through this partnership.” Come and discover the top Givenchy brand on Michele Franzese Moda.
