Etro is in the crosshairs of private equity L-Catterton for a possible acquisition, according to rumors of the last few days. The maison has already attracted in the past the interest of the Mayhoola fund, the holding company headed by the royal family of Qatar, formerly controlling Valentino, Pal Zileri and Balmain. Etro was founded in the late 1960s by Gimmo Etro and is now controlled by the second generation of the family with Jacopo, Kean, Veronica and Ippolito Etro. L Catterton, a private equity fund which among its shareholders includes LVMH and Groupe Arnault, recently acquired a majority stake in Birkenstock, a German company famous for its sandals. Analysts estimate the footwear brand at around 4 billion euros.
