The boom in e-commerce that characterized shopping in the Covid era also affects luxury auctions, according to Bloomberg. In November and December Christie’s saw a 200% increase in online sales, with an estimate for the whole of 2020 of a 322% increase. Sotheby’s also quintupled its total sales in one year, which currently amount to $ 150.5 million. At Christie’s it is possible to buy a Hermès Birkin ‘Himalaya’ in crocodile with white gold and diamonds details for around 200-250 thousand dollars. Sotheby’s proposes one of them realized in 2010 whose estimated cost is 260-300 thousand dollars.
