Paris and Copenhagen, September 2023 – BIRKENSTOCK 1774, the German heritage brand’s special projects
and collaboration unit and Tekla, the Copenhagen-based homeware brand, are proud to introduce their
first collaboration together.
Inspired by ideals of contemplation and finding stillness of mind, the collection comprises pieces made
for moments of comfort.
The collaboration is born of a mutual appreciation of quality, reflecting the brands’ shared values of
craftsmanship, and marks a significant milestone for both: BIRKENSTOCK explores the realm of apparel
and Tekla takes its first step into the world of footwear.
Footwear and sleepwear are crafted in high-quality materials using BIRKENSTOCK’s iconic silhouettes and
Tekla’s distinct approach to colour, giving the appearance of being “dipped in colour”.
“There is a natural synergy between BIRKENSTOCK and Tekla, with quality and craftsmanship central to
what we do. We wanted to explore this further with a collection that looks at the idea of rest as a form of

BIRKENSTOCK’s iconic Nagoya slip-on clog and Uji sandal are updated with elevated details – like
elongated straps on the shoes’ overlap fastening detail and hand stitching – and premium materials.
Footwear is crafted in a balanced palette of subtle and saturated block colourways taken from Tekla’s
The footwear collection introduces four monochromatic colourways in Slate, Straw, Mauve and Powder,
used across a material mix to give a serene, “dipped in colour” finish. BIRKENSTOCK’s distinctive cork
footbed is covered in soft shearling for added comfort, finished with a smooth Nappa leather heel wrap.
All shoes are made in Germany and come in a tonal, poplin pillow sham-style dust bag and co-branded
shoe box made from recycled paper.
With an elevated take on Tekla’s classic designs and developed exclusively for the collection, sleepwear
takes inspiration from the oversized pieces worn for comfort and ease of movement.
The sleepwear collection includes an oversized kaftan with unique details; an elongated long-sleeved
shirt with a straight hem, buttoned cuffs and a stand collar; and pants and shorts with a single leg pleat
for extra volume. All sleepwear is cut in an oversized, unisex fit from Tekla’s crisp and lightweight cotton
poplin that feels gentle on skin. The sleepwear collection introduces three colourways, in monochrome
Slate, Mauve Stripes and Wheat Stripes.
The collection campaign follows a group of people as they move between a bustling metropolis and a
tranquil home with gardens in a dream-like state, captured by Ben Beagent in Tokyo, Japan.
The collection will launch on October 12th exclusively at 1774.com, teklafabrics.com, the Tekla Copenhagen
retail store, and at Matchesfashion. From October 17th onwards, it will be globally available at selected
