The much-awaited Amina Muaddi spring-summer 2021 drop is online, with some of the new styles making their way online on retailers like Mytheresa, Matches Fashion and Farfetch. In true Muaddi fashion style, there was no big announcement or a formal presentation – just a couple of teaser images on Instagram, followed by online launch – which makes the discovery process all the more exciting. Some of the signature styles are back, including the Lupita mules featuring the brand’s signature cone-shaped heel; the Begum slingbacks embellished with the brand’s now famous crystal brooch; and the Gilda crystal-embellished strappy sandals – a new metallic silver and yellow version looks particularly good. The Zula thong sandal, a standout design known for its PVC strap and crystal ankle straps, is also making a comeback after being introduced last summer for the first time — good news for all those who were (understandably) dissuaded from taking the plunge last summer in the midst of the pandemic. There’s also plenty of new silhouettes to get excited about outside the brand’s signature mid-heels, including a kitten slingback heel called the Rosie — ideal for anyone who has been living in flats during lockdown and needs to ease themselves back into heels. The Rosie features a crystal bow embellishment and comes in black, white and pistachio green hues. Muaddi has also been experimenting more with wedges lately. Building on the wedge boots from last fall’s collection, she is now introducing some really upbeat wedge mule designs. In the spirit of summer, they come in bold green patterns which resemble the skins of watermelons. I wanted to create a wedge that was fierce, sculptural, high enough but comfortable,” Amina said of the new silhouette. For those looking to be extra bold and embrace the spirit of the roaring ’20s making its way into fashion, there’s also a PVC slingback in a bright orange and lime hue that could never go unnoticed – newly launched at Mytheresa – and the new Robyn sandal with a cone-shaped heel and bejewelled buckle straps. Splashes of animal print, metallic and big party platforms are also part of the mix. It’s bright, sparkly and probably everything shoe lovers needed after a bleak year of lockdown and one too many slippers.
